Fanikisha Widows Initiative is a registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) dedicated to empowering widows across Kilifi County through economic empowerment, social support, skills development, and advocacy. We believe every widow deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, independence, and hope.
Fanikisha Widows Initiative serves as an umbrella organization that brings widows together to support one another, learn together, and grow together. We work with widow groups across Malindi, Magarini, and Kilifi North, helping them build stronger livelihoods through savings, entrepreneurship, training, and community support.
Officially registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) in June 2024, Fanikisha continues to expand its reach with a vision of serving widows throughout Kilifi County.
Every programme we implement is guided by one simple belief: when widows are empowered, families become stronger and communities prosper.
Fanikisha Widows Initiative was born from the personal experience of Mama Dadu, a widow who understood firsthand the emotional and financial challenges faced by widows.
As a member of a table banking group, she noticed that many widows wanted to save and improve their lives but struggled to contribute consistently because of their limited income. Rather than watching them remain excluded, she encouraged a few widows to begin saving whatever little they could and inspired them to view savings as a pathway to starting small income-generating businesses.
What began as a small group of determined women gradually grew into a thriving network of widow support groups. As more lives were transformed, more widows joined the initiative, leading to the birth of Fanikisha Widows Initiative.
Today, Fanikisha continues to empower widows by promoting financial independence, community support, practical skills, and advocacy, helping women build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
