Fanikisha Widows Initiative is a community-based organization supporting widows across Kilifi County through economic empowerment, social support, skills development, and advocacy. We work to help widows build stable livelihoods, strengthen their families, and thrive with dignity.
Fanikisha Widows Initiative is an umbrella organization for widows in Kilifi County, bringing women together for support, empowerment, and collective growth. What began as a small effort to help widows save and support one another has grown into a strong community movement reaching widows and families across Malindi, Magarini, and Kilifi North.
Through savings groups, business empowerment, training, and advocacy, we help widows move from vulnerability to self-reliance and from isolation to belonging.
Fanikisha Widows Initiative was founded by Mama Dadu, a widow who understood the challenges many widows face, especially financial hardship and the struggle to build a stable future for their families.
She began by encouraging a small group of widows to save whatever little they could and use it as a stepping stone toward income-generating activities and small businesses. As these first women began to see change in their lives, more widows joined, and what started as a small support effort eventually grew into Fanikisha Widows Initiative.
Today, the organization continues to empower widows through savings, business support, skills development, and advocacy.
We support widows through practical programs designed to strengthen livelihoods, build confidence, and create opportunities for long-term independence.
